I understand it like this: …from our point of view (from earth), the moon is bigger than the stars and hence it represent those bigger goals/achievements in life…while the stars represent those smaller achievements we acquire while we are aiming for the moon.
However, even if the stars are smaller from our view point..I think the stars are equally or even more beautiful than the moon itself. Therefore, I believe they represent those riches that we acquire during life, but we don’t realize their true value, and that they may be even more valuable than what we originally aimed for.

Alot of you are thick. Ofcourse the stars are further than the moon. the point is the metaphor he’s putting out. “shoot for the moon” and even if you miss you go the complete opposite way you can still land amongst the stars which is still a dream. think before you write dumb asses.

Hello Michael, effectively, this is what would happen, from a rational point of view, but as said Rabelais ‘Science without conscience is the ruin of the soul’ (and consciousness inevitably has a delay on intelligence) and especially Einstein, ‘Imagination is more important than knowledge’, because this is what makes us human, with also, the ability to speak, to think about what is abstract, laughter, hope, spirituality (not religion that confuses faith and belief, which leads to intolerance), etc.
and this quotation, if it comes from Less brown, which is a coatch for motivation, ‘shoot’ our imagination to motivate us, and if it is from Brian Littrell, ‘shoot’ our imagination to give us hope, because the moon and the stars have a very long history that accompanies our tiny story of little humans with very big ego who are destroying everything very quickly on earth. 😉
